Proofreading

As the final step in the editing process, proofreading is reserved exclusively for manuscripts that have already been professionally edited by Red Pen for Rent. This service is strongly recommended as a companion to the Book Interior Formatting process.
A traditionally published work is reviewed by both a copyeditor and a proofreader, and we provide that same level of quality control for your self-published book.
Here's how it works:
Proofreading historically referred to the act of making technical corrections to a facsimile of the finished product (a "proof"), but these days we do it on-screen.
At this stage, we are primarily examining your text from a technical standpoint, checking for typographical errors as well as errors in spelling, grammar, and usage. We additionally read against the style sheet produced for your manuscript during the editing process.

Here's how it works:
- You review and finalize your copyedited manuscript.
- Ashley proofreads the finalized manuscript.
- Alissa reviews the edits, then returns the manuscript to you for review.
- After your review, the manuscript goes on to Richie for layout.
- The laid-out PDF comes to Alissa for a final proofread.
- Richie implements final corrections, then the manuscript comes to you for final review.
- Richie implements any last corrections and finalizes the print PDF, then generates digital versions.
